How to cook with Seaweeds
Seaweeds are salty! (From where they grow!)
Seaweeds are very tasty raw but can also be incorporated into recipes and cooking very easily.
When cooking with seaweeds, if the dried seaweeds have not been soaked before use, the salt present in the plant will come out in the cooking.
Some seaweeds it is easier to chop when dry – eg dulse – and then put into a sieve and place in a bowl of water for 10 to 15 mins before use. Drain and then use the seaweed in the recipe.
Other seaweeds are easier to chop after soaking – eg Kelp and Sweet Kelp. Put into a bowl of water and soak for 10 to 15 mins, drain, pat dry and chop to size required.
